  Tarique Rahman is the Right Leader to Eliminate Discrimination: Santosh Sharma

Kamrul Hasan Santosh Sharma, Central General Secretary of the Bangladesh Puja Celebration Council and Editor of the Daily Kalbela, has emphasized the need for effective political leadership to strengthen democratic institutions, ensure equal rights for people of all faiths, promote communal harmony, and establish a discrimination-free state. Addressing the biennial conference of the Manikganj District Puja Celebration Council as the special guest on Saturday afternoon at the Kalibari Anandamoyee Temple premises in Manikganj town, Sharma said, "Tarique Rahman, Chairman of the BNP and Prime Minister, is the right leader to establish democracy, ensure fundamental rights, achieve overall national development, and eradicate communalism. The Sanatani community never supports the wrong person." He stressed that building a modern, inclusive, and discrimination-free state requires guaranteeing equal rights for all citizens regardless of religion or ethnicity. According to him, communal harmony, mutual respect, and the effective implementation of constitutional rights are essential prerequisites for sustainable national development. He called upon all communities to work together in maintaining social unity and political stability. Expressing gratitude to Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita, MP, Sharma said, "Just as the people of Bangladesh have confidence in the leadership of BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the people of Manikganj also feel secure under the leadership of District BNP Convener and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita." He further remarked, "Following the events of August 5, Afroza Khanam Rita stood firmly beside the Sanatani families of Manikganj. Thanks to her visionary leadership, members of the Sanatani community in the district have been able to live in a safe environment." He also expressed hope that her contributions to the district`s infrastructure and overall development would continue in the future. The conference was presided over by Acting President of the District Puja Celebration Council Basudeb Goswami and inaugurated by Basudeb Dhar, President of the Bangladesh Puja Celebration Council. The event was moderated by District General Secretary Anirban Pal. Former President of the Bangladesh Puja Celebration Council, Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, attended as the keynote speaker. He stressed the need to ensure the active participation of followers of all religions in the country`s democratic progress and development. He also emphasized strengthening social and political commitments to protect the security, dignity, and constitutional rights of minority communities. As the chief guest, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita, MP, could not attend the conference. Representing her, Advocate A.F.M. Nurtaz Alam Bahar, PP, a member of the District BNP Convener Committee, addressed the gathering. He said the current government is committed to ensuring religious harmony, a discrimination-free society, and peaceful coexistence among all communities. He added that the government is giving the highest priority to protecting the legitimate rights and dignity of the Sanatani community. Among others, speeches were delivered by Advocate Tapas Pal, Vice-President of the Bangladesh Puja Celebration Council; Engineer Ratan Dutta, Organizing Secretary; Advocate Asim Kumar Biswas, Honorary Member; Abdus Salam Badal, Member of the District BNP Convener Committee; and Gauranga Sarkar, Member Secretary of the District Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Welfare Front. The conference was attended by Rafique Uddin Bhuiyan Habu and Asaduzzaman Khan Dolon, members of the District BNP Convener Committee; Shishir Ghosh, Director of the Manikganj Chamber of Commerce and Industries; Kalipada Ghosh, President of the Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council; leaders of district and upazila Puja Celebration Councils, representatives of various socio-cultural organizations, and thousands of distinguished guests from different religious communities. During the second session of the conference, the new leadership of the Manikganj District Puja Celebration Council was elected. Ruhidas Torofder was elected General Secretary unopposed as there was no other candidate for the post. In the election for the presidency, Dulal Sikder secured victory with 30 votes, defeating Acting President Basudeb Goswami, who received eight votes. The election results were officially announced by Santosh Sharma, Central General Secretary of the Bangladesh Puja Celebration Council. The newly elected President, Dulal Sikder, and General Secretary, Ruhidas Torofder, pledged to transform the District Puja Celebration Council into a stronger, more effective, and people-oriented organization while working collectively to promote religious harmony, social unity, and the rights of the Sanatani community.
