Major Sinha`s associate Sifat gets bail

Abu Sayem, Cox`s Bazar: A court has granted bail to Rifatul Islam Sifat, a student of the Department of Film and Media Studies at Stamford University, an associate of Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan, who was shot dead by police at the Teknaf Baharchhara Shamlapur check post in Cox`s Bazar. RAB-15K has been given the responsibility of investigating the two cases filed against him by the police. The judge granted Sifat bail until the investigation report of the case is received. Acting Judge Tamanna Farah of the Senior Judicial Magistrate`s Court (Teknaf-3) passed the order at 11:30 am on Monday.
Earlier on Sunday, Sifat lawyer Mahbubul Alam Tipu said police had filed two murder and drug cases (GR-695, GR-696) against Rifatul Islam Sifat, an associate of slain Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan. Sifat was granted bail in two cases on Sunday and the investigation officer of the case has been transferred to the RAB subject to investigation.
Earlier on Sunday, Sifat`s bail application was sought, but Tamanna Farah, the acting judge of the Judicial Magistrate`s Court (Teknaf-3), fixed Monday for bail again after the hearing. Former Major Sinha was shot dead by the police on July 31. Rashed. The police filed three cases as plaintiffs in the incident. One in Ramu police station and two in Teknaf police station. Police have filed a case under the Narcotics Act against Shipra Rani Debnath, a student of the Department of Film and Media Studies at Stamford University, for allegedly recovering drugs from Nilima Resort.
In the case of Major Sinha`s murder, the police filed a case against Sifat under the Murder and Narcotics Act. Sifat and Shipra Debnath were sent to jail through the court. Both were granted bail in the case filed by the police.
Former Teknaf Model Police Station OC Pradeep Kumar Das, IC Inspector of Baharchhara Investigation Center Liakat and six others have been sacked and are in Cox`s Bazar jail in connection with the murder case filed by Sinha`s sister.
