Allegations of looting in 16 rural infrastructure development projects in Daulatpur
  Date : 26-04-2024

Bachchu, Daulatpur Correspondent: The name of the project is `Filling and development of soil in the yard of Taragunia football field` where allocated 10 metric tons of wheat. As a government, its market value is 3 lakh 10 thousand rupees. The project was to be completed by June 30. However, only two trucks have fallen on the football field so far. The soil is also piled up in two places in the field. Kushtia`s Daulatpur upazila has been accused of stealing such ponds under the Rural Infrastructure Reform (Kabikha) project. Relevant sources said that on the recommendation of local MP AQM Sarwar Jahan Badshah, the concerned department allocated 160.555 metric tonnes of wheat in the last 2019-20 fiscal year under the Kabikha project to renovate various infrastructures in the upazila. The wheat was allocated for a total of 17 projects including school grounds and unpaved roads in different areas of the upazila. These projects were to be completed by June 30 this year.

However, the people of the project area complained that the lion`s share of the money was shared by the people of the Upazila Project Implementation Office (PIO Office) and the concerned people including the project president. Turning to the ground, these allegations have also been found to be true. 10 metric tons of wheat was allocated for the development of Taragunia football ground in the upazila. As a government, its market value is three lakh 10 thousand rupees. However, visiting the traditional football field of the area, it was seen that only two trucks were lying on the ground in two places. According to the locals, the price of this land is around 6 to 7 thousand rupees. Although the wheat allotted for the project is worth Tk 3 lakh 10 thousand, the president of the project Shafiqul Islam said that he has received a total of Tk 1 lakh from the PIO office. He claimed that the project could not be completed due to heavy rains. Meanwhile, nine tonnes of wheat was allotted for the reconstruction of the road from Mozammel`s house to Zillur`s house in Ramkrishnapur village of Ramkrishnapur union in the upazila. However, speaking to the locals on the spot, it is learned that a few baskets of soil were dumped in a couple of places on the road at the end of July.
