Child among 2 drown in Jamalpur floodwaters

A child and an elderly man drowned in floodwaters at Sarishabari upazila in Jamalpur district on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Yasin Miah, 8, son of Helal Miah, a resident of Chor Adra village in the upazila and Saha Ali, 58, a resident of Kamrabad area in Sarishabari municipality in the upazila.

Abu Taher, chairman of Satpoa Union Parishad, said that Yasin was playing near his house in the afternoon. Suddenly, he fell into the floodwater beside his house and went missing. Later, family members recovered his body from the water.

Meanwhile, Saha Ali went into missing in the Jhenai river due to high stream while he was catching fish in the river in the afternoon.

Later, his floating body was found in the river.

Mushfiqur Rahman, officer in-charge of Sarishabari Police Station, confirmed the matters.
