  Date : 14-05-2025

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday termed Chattogram Port the heart of the country’s economy and emphasized that upgrading the port is crucial to increasing its capacity and strengthening the overall economy.

“If the port facilities can be ensured, investors will come here,” he said while addressing a meeting held at the NCT-5 premises of Chattogram Port.

Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hussain and Chittagong Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman also spoke on the occasion.

The Chief Adviser said the Chattogram port must be built as one of the world`s best ports to change the country`s economy.

He said, “To enhance the capacity of the port, its management must be handed over to the world`s top port operators.”

“If the port management is handed over to world top port operators, they will come up with modern technologies, creating more job opportunities for Bangladeshi people,” he noted.

“The port is now a small one, its size should be increased to a world size one,” he said adding that without developing the port, it is quite impossible to change the country`s economy.

The Chief Adviser also visited different sections of the port and saw himself the activities of the port.

The Chief Adviser arrived in his hometown Chattogram this morning for the first time after assuming office as the head of the interim government.
