Chapainawabganj Correspondent : GIS data transfer and IMIS orientation was held in Chapainawabganj Paurashava (Municipality) under the theme “Smart System, More Smart Services”. On Wednesday (May 14) morning, the program jointly organized by SNV and Chapainawabganj Paurashava.
The program presided over by the Chapainawabganj Paurashava Administrator Mr. Ujjal Kumar Ghosh. The venue of the program is Chapainawabganj Paurashava Auditorium.
Town Planner of tge Paurashava Md. Imran Hossain presented details about the analysis of GIS data and future steps.
He said, “Since September 2024, SNV and GPAD is being carried out a full GIS census of all buildings in the municipality. The census collected detailed data on 89,694 buildings (43,243 main buildings and 46,451 subsidiary buildings), along with information about toilet systems—18,958 septic tanks, 18,493 pit toilets, and 18,086 soak wells, totaling 37,451 containment units. Roads, drains, and waterbodies were also mapped by using GIS.
This digital data will help the Paurashava to manage solid waste and urban planning more effectively.”
During the event, Md. Mamun-Or-Rashid, Paura-Nirbahi Officer said, “This GIS data is a big asset for our Paurashava. It will help not only in waste management but also in urban planning. We will also integrate it with our holding tax system.”
Md. Toufiqul Islam, Executive Engineer of Paurashava mentioned, “We are now starting the professional faecal sludge management service with the support of SNV. This data will support our work greatly.”
Patricia Solórzano, Project Manager of SNV added “In today’s time of rapid urban growth, GIS data is essential. Without it, Paurashavas cannot plan or manage waste properly. SNV will continue to support the municipality with training and digital systems like IMIS (Integrated Municipal Information System), which can be used even with minimum IT skills.”
Mohammad Rezaul Huda Milon, Cluster Coordinator (Rajshahi), led the action planning session.
Expressing gratitude to SNV, the administrator of Chapainawabganj Paurashava said, “This initiative is a strong step towards smart and data-based municipal management, which will make citizen services more efficient and improved. SNV has played a major role in successfully completing this complex task. Now it is our responsibility to use this data.”
The event was attended by officials and employees of the Paurashava`s engineering, sanitation, and IT departments, along with representatives from DPHE, GIZ, Department of Environment (DOE), GPAD, and local community.
