Milestone student Mahtab dies after four-day battle for life

Mahtab Rahman (15), a student who was severely burned in the military aircraft crash at Milestone School and College in the Diabari area of the capital, has died.

He was a seventh-grade student in the English version section of the school.

On Thursday (July 24), Mahtab passed away at 1:50pm while undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

The information was confirmed by the institute’s residential surgeon Dr Shaon Bin Rahman. He stated that 85 percent of Mahtab’s body, including his respiratory tract, had been burned.

He was in critical condition and died while in the ICU. This brings the total death toll in the incident to 12.

Mahtab, who sustained burns in the crash, was the only son of Minhajur Rahman of Chulash Bhuiyan Bari in Debidwar upazila of Cumilla. He lived with his family in Uttara, Dhaka.

Mahtab’s father, Minhajur Rahman Bhuiyan, said, “I used to take Mahtab to and from school every day. On Monday, I went to pick him up as usual. But he was burned in the aircraft crash. Later, the army rescued him and took him to the hospital.”
