SI among 3 killed in Jashore road accident

Three people, including a Sub-Inspector of police, were killed in a road accident when a bus crashed into a truck in Jashore`s Bagharpara upazila on Sunday night.

The accident occurred around 10:45 PM near Bhangaura Bazar on the Narail-Jashore highway in the upazila.

Narail Superintendent of Police Md. Rabiul Islam confirmed the news.


The dead have been identified as Sub-Inspector (SI) Nikkon Adhya, 35, of Lahuria Investigation Centre under Lohagara Police Station in Narail, Akhtar Hossain of Basundia area in Jashore Sadar, and Abu Zafar of Vekutia area in the Jashore suburbs. Abu Zafar was also a former joint general secretary of the central committee of the Swechchhasebak Dal.

According to police, a bamboo-laden truck was parked on the highway. At that time, a Dhaka-bound bus belonging to ‘Narail Express’ heading towards Jashore lost control and rammed into the rear of the truck. The front of the bus was severely damaged, and bamboo poles penetrated the bus interior. Akhtar Hossain died on the spot.

Abu Zafar and SI Nikkon Adhya sustained critical injuries. They were first taken to Jashore General Hospital, where Abu Zafar succumbed to his injuries. Later, SI Nikkon was being transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment, but his condition deteriorated en route. He was taken to Narail Sadar Hospital, where he died around 12:30 AM on Monday while undergoing treatment.
