BSC`s self-financed ship procurement marks a milestone: Sakhawat
  Date : 21-09-2025

(BSS) - Bangladesh Shipping Corporation`s (BSC) initiative to procure two modern bulk carrier ships with its own financing marks a historic milestone in the country`s maritime sector, said Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Rtd.) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain.

He made the remarks as chief guest at the signing ceremony of a ship supply agreement between BSC and Hellenic Dry Bulk Ventures LLC held at a city hotel this evening.

"This is the first time in the country`s history that BSC is purchasing ships using its own funds," the Adviser said, adding that the two ships will increase BSC`s annual income by Tk 150 crore and expand its transport capacity by around 120,000 DWT.

Sakhawat, who is also in charge of the ministry of labour and employment, further noted that the vessels, built under German license in China, are environmentally friendly, energy-efficient and meet the latest IMO standards. European and Japanese equipment, including pumps from Spain and compressors from Norway, have been used.

The first ship is expected to be delivered in October 2025, followed by the second one in December 2025.

Additionally, the procurement process for three more ships is underway, bringing the total to five new ships under the current government`s initiative.
