Staff Reporter : A case has been filed against nine BNP leaders and activists for allegedly harassing the duty officer and a female constable of Ghior Police Station in Manikganj over a bike parking issue.
The case was lodged on Friday (October 3) by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Rafiqul Islam of Ghior Police Station. In the case, 20–25 others have been named as unidentified accused.
The accused are Khandakar Biltu, G M Selim, Ujjal, Mir Kausar, Harez, Rafiqul Islam Pintu, Raju, Samiul Alam Biltu, and Shahidul Islam. They are all followers of Khandakar Akbar Hossain Bablu, a member of the Manikganj District BNP Convening Committee, and hold leadership positions in union, upazila, and district-level BNP affiliated organizations, in addition to being active party workers.
Incident Details:
According to police and local sources, on Thursday evening, 20–30 BNP leaders and activists, including Mir Kausar and Md. Selim Mia, arrived in Ghior Sadar to attend the Bijoya Dashami celebration. Due to the crowd, a parking shortage arose, and they attempted to park motorcycles near the Ghior Police Station.
At that time, a female constable on duty tried to stop them. It is alleged that Mir Kausar then verbally abused her. When ASI Rafiqul Islam came to manage the situation, he too was subjected to abusive language.
ASI Rafiqul Islam said, “I was on duty. Suddenly, many people tried to enter the police station, so I stopped them. They became agitated and started pushing and shoving.”
However, Khandakar Akbar Hossain Bablu, a member of the District BNP Convening Committee, denied the allegations.
He said, “We went to attend the Puja fair. My vehicle was outside, and I did not enter the police station. There may have been some exchanges of words between the leaders and the police, but no harassment took place. The matter is being exaggerated.”
Mir Kausar, General Secretary of Ghior Sadar Union BNP, claimed, “SI Masud Rana asked us to park our bikes at the police station. But ASI Rafiqul suddenly stopped us and misbehaved.”
Regarding the incident, Manikganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Shibalaya Circle) Sadia Sabrina Chowdhury said that a case has been filed against nine individuals.
