A toddler died after drowning in a pond at Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat district on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Saleh Ahmed Tahsin, 2, son of Sablu Mia of Pashchim Jagatber Musullitari area in the upazila.

According to locals, the child`s grandmother left house to cut grass for their cows. At that time, Tahsin followed her anonymously and fell into a nearby pond.

Later, locals spotted his body floating in the pond, rescued him and rushed him to Patgram Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Jagatber Union Parishad (UP) member Tozammel Hossain confirmed the death.
