A group of students from Jahangirnagar University (JU) staged a protest condemning the Israeli forces’ attack on the Gaza-bound aid ship of `Global Sumud Flotilla` and expressing solidarity with the humanitarian mission on Friday afternoon.
The protest, organised by Jahangirnagar University Central Students` Union (JUCSU), began from the central mosque premises and concluded with a brief rally at the Shaheed Minar.
Protesters chanted slogans including `From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free`, `Zionism no more`, `Justice, justice, we want justice`, `Free, free Palestine`, and `Salute to the fighters of Hamas`.
Speaking at the rally, JUCSU General Secretary (GS) Mazharul Islam said, "Israel is the eternal enemy of humanity. In just last two years, Israel has killed nearly one hundred thousand Palestinians. Those who talk about humanity remain silent when it comes to Palestine."
He also added that they have spoken with student organisations in other countries, and they believe that global public opinion can bring freedom for Palestine."
JUCSU Vice-President (VP) Abdur Rashid Zitu said, "Israel is the most brutal and barbaric state in the world. When international activists set out with humanitarian aid through the Global Sumud Flotilla, Israeli forces intercepted them."
He also added that from Bangladesh and from Jahangirnagar University, they express their solidarity with this humanitarian journey and strongly condemn Israel’s action."
Expressing solidarity with the protest, JU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Mahfuzur Rahman said, "We stand here today with deep pain. The inhumane Israeli forces have blocked the Global Sumud Flotilla that was carrying food for starving people in Gaza."
He also added that Israel is the number one terrorist state in the world, led by Netanyahu. Those who support Israel are equally guilty of crimes against humanity.
"From Jahangirnagar University, we strongly condemn such terrorist acts." Added Pro VC.
