Kamrul Hasan: Police have recovered the bodies of three people from separate locations in Manikganj. Among them are: a man found hanging from the ceiling of a multi-story building in Paschim Dasra area of Sadar upazila, another man found hanging from a tree in Dewbhog village of Ghior upazila, and an unidentified man found dead in Dighi Union of Sadar upazila.
The bodies were recovered on Monday (October 13) morning.
According to Sadar Police, they received a call through the national emergency helpline 999 and went to the third floor of a multi-story building behind the Sadar Land Office in Paschim Dasra area, where they found the body of a man named Abu Hanif (30) hanging from a ceiling fan. He was the son of Nur Ahmad from Kumar Doga village in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla district, and worked as a manpower agent.
Local sources said Hanif had allegedly taken money from several people, promising to send them abroad, and there were multiple complaints of fraud against him. He got divorced from his wife, Brishti Akter, in 2023. On Monday morning, he went to Brishti’s house to repay the money from selling a motorcycle that she had previously bought for him. Some of his other creditors were also present there. Moments later, Hanif entered Brishti’s room and locked the door from inside. Shortly afterward, he was found hanging from the ceiling fan. Police later arrived and recovered the body.
In another incident, the body of a man named Sonamia (40) was found hanging from a tree near his home in Dewbhog village of Ghior upazila. Police initially suspect it to be a case of suicide.
Meanwhile, police recovered the body of an unidentified man near Manikganj Medical College in Dighi Union of Sadar upazila. Police suspect the man was a vagabond.
All three bodies were sent to the morgue of Manikganj Medical College Hospital for autopsy after completing inquest procedures. Separate unnatural death (UD) cases are being filed in connection with each incident.
Aminul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Manikganj Sadar Police Station, said, “Two bodies have been recovered from Sadar upazila. Initial signs suggest one of them may have died by suicide. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy.”
Kohinur Mia, Officer-in-Charge of Ghior Police Station, said, “After the death of his wife, Sonamia had been suffering from mental distress. We suspect that he took his own life as a result.”
