World Toilet Day celebrated in Cox`s Bazar

Abu sayem, Cox`s bazar: The speakers expressed the opinion that healthy and safe sanitation plays an important role in preventing diarrhea, cholera, and reducing child mortality.This opinion was expressed at a discussion meeting organized in Cox`s Bazar to mark World Toilet Day. Speakers said that Bangladesh needs to ensure a safe and sustainable sanitation system that is accessible to all. The Cox`s Bazar Department of Public Health Engineering and NGOs working in the WASH sector in Cox`s Bazar organized this discussion meeting on Wednesday (November 19) afternoon.This year`s theme for this day, declared by the United Nations, was "Equality and Respect in Sanitation and Safe Defecation Management" - which is very significant in the context of Cox`s Bazar.The day was started auspiciously by releasing balloons at the Training Center of the Department of Public Health Engineering in the morning.The discussion meeting was addressed by Mohd. Ibne Mayaz Pramanik, Executive Engineer of Cox`s Bazar PublicHaiswar Engineering Department, Sajeda Begum, UNICEF WASH Project Officer, and Enamul Haque Mondal, Project Director of Haiswar and Abul manjur Assistant Engineer of public health Engineering Department. Speakers at the discussion meeting said that everyone must work together to ensure a proper and clean sanitation system in tourism-dependent Cox`s Bazar. In that regard, they emphasized the importance of improving the quality of the toilet system. At the end of the discussion meeting, the winners of the essay competition on safe sanitation were awarded prizes to students from various educational institutions and models of hygienic toilets were displayed.
