Department of Environment raids brick kiln in Magura: owner`s heartbreaking tears

A mobile court has demolished eight brick kilns in Magura Sadar Upazila and Sreepur Upazila for making bricks without clearance from the Department of Environment and operating the kilns in violation of the kiln control law. Executive Magistrate Mashruba Ferdousi Sufia of the Khulna office of the Bangladesh Environment Department conducted the mobile court from morning to evening on Monday, January 18. The demolished ghats are Gorai Brix run by Abu Jafar of Raynagar area of ​​Sreepur upazila, Topten Bhata of Humaunur Rashid Muhith of Nakol area, Zia Brick of Litu Sheikh of Maheshpur area, Hamim Brix of Mushfiqur Rahman Kanan of Sarangdia area, Mir Eon Hossain of Pukuria area of ​​Magura Sadar. Bricks, MS Bricks of Sumon in Bagbaria area, brick kilns of Sohail, raw bricks of all brick kilns have been smashed and chimneys have also been smashed. Abu Jafar, the owner of Gorai Bricks, said that 20 lakh raw bricks have been smashed in our kiln. The total loss is estimated at around two crore rupees. This left us economically crippled and destitute. But I am always coming with VAT and tax in the revenue sector of the government. Thus, each brick kiln has caused an economic loss of between Tk. 1 to 2 crore. Executive Magistrate Mashruba Ferdousi Sufia of the Khulna office of the Bangladesh Environment Department said, "We are conducting a campaign against illegal brick kilns as per the court order." We have been fined before, we have filed a case in the court, and the court has asked us to break the bricks and report. The operation will be conducted in all the brick kilns without clearance from the Department of Environment. Mashruba Ferdousi, executive magistrate of the Khulna office of the Bangladesh Environment Department, said the operation was being carried out against those who were permanently chimneying at low tide. Those kilns that continue to make bricks by air without using permanent chimneys are being initially fined. 2012 Fixed chimney brick kilns, a traditional method of polluting the environment, have been banned.
