Virtual World: Cyber Security
  Date : 27-04-2024

Alhaj Md. Abu Yusuf: Welcome to the 22nd edition of the series titled Possibilities and Fears of virtual world. In the last few episodes we have discussed various aspects of the Internet and the virtual world.

When it comes to the internet and the cyber world, naturally the security of this world also comes up.

The reason for the issue of security is that the level of crime in this world is increasing day by day. There is a special class of people who are involved in crime in the internet and virtual world. They also create cyber-terrorism. Innocent people are so terrified. These crimes are committed in many ways. The criminals of this world can use various computer systems or networks to stop a person from doing his job or even force him to do something if necessary. May damage computer systems and networks now and then. The virus can spread and cripple the entire network. In addition, in many cases, fraud and deception can. It can confuse the society and the state by spreading false information including creating panic or fear among the people directly or in disguise.

In addition, cybercriminals can try to endanger the country`s integrity, unity and public security or sovereignty. Incidents such as pornography, hacking of personal confidential information, secretly capturing, storing and promoting pictures or videos of others without permission are also happening all the time. Many experts fear war in the future to protect the security and sovereignty of the virtual world. The battle of this world is called the battle of the fifth domain. Many countries are preparing to fight in the fifth domain cyberspace after acquiring capabilities in land, naval, air and space warfare. The weapons being used in this war are not atomic bombs, guns, ammunition. The weapon of this war is called logic bomb. Some are calling it the Digital Continental Ballistic Missile. In this war, the addition of programming codes to technology products, software tampers and hacking of websites, intellectual property, data and data theft, and the Internet-powered system were completely paralyzed. As a result, huge amount of financial loss is incurred by different governments and different organizations every year.

The reality is that cyber security has become important to the whole world. However, there is no alternative to public awareness to ensure cyber security. Currently, one of the targets of hackers is the financial and banking sectors. According to various sources, the hackers first targeted the general employees of the bank with a plan to embezzle thousands of crores of rupees. They are then tricked into stealing customer information and making unauthorized access to the payment system. As a result, it is successful at one time. Therefore, everyone working in banks and financial institutions needs to have an idea about the type of cyber attack. For this, the cyber security of the bank should be given utmost importance.

Cyber attacks cost the world at least hundreds of billions of dollars every year. According to a 2014 report by Intel Security, the global financial loss from cyber attacks is estimated at ৭ 365 billion. In 2013, the damage was close to ৩ 300 billion. With the passage of time, the amount of damage in cyber crime is increasing in the world. Huge sums of money of the central bank of Bangladesh have also been stolen through hacking. Although cyber crime continues to rise, poor countries are not taking any effective steps to tackle it. Many countries have no legal or institutional framework for cyber security. There is no law to prevent or suppress cyber crime. Besides, there is a lack of skilled manpower. Emphasis should be placed on research for cyber security. The Internet and the virtual world are used in everything from household chores to government work.

The importance of cyber security cannot be overemphasized. You have to take action to protect your own wealth, not with others. Every country and organization must be vocal about this. The gate needs a good quality door and lock for the security of the house so that no one can enter it. Now even if the property is stolen after the door is installed, then it must be said that there are thieves in the house. In that case you have to try to catch the burglar. But before that you have to fix your gate and lock. Computer users in every office need to be aware. Because he will download the file, movie or picture, install the apps or software and give him the knowledge of what not to do.
