Half fare in BRTC buses for students from Dec 1
  Date : 26-04-2024

Online Report : In response to the demand of students, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has decided to reduce BRTC bus fares for students across the country by 50 per cent. This decision will be effective from December 1.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said this at a briefing at his residence in Dhaka on Friday morning.

Obaidul Quader said, “Sheikh Hasina-led government is the government of the people. She gives the highest priority to any demand that is close to the people and logical.”

After the decision comes into effect on December 1, students will be able to travel on BRTC buses at half fare, said he added.
Quader further said students will get this concession in case of traveling in BRTC bus from 8 am to 8 pm.

However, noting that the concession will not be applicable on the day of closure of educational institutions, he said adding that BRTC will issue a notification in this regard soon.

The Awami League general secretary said, “A meeting will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at BRTA office with the leaders of transport owners and workers’ federations to discuss the issue of giving concessions to students in privately owned buses and minibuses.”

Quader hopes that the transport owners will take a positive decision as they are sensitive to the social responsibility and demands of the students.
