Four on a motorcycle; wife, son killed being rammed by truck

Online Desk : A woman riding a motorcycle and her 8-month-old son were killed being rammed bya speeding truck at Nagarkanda in Faridpur district on Tuesday (April 16) evening.

The husband and two-year-old daughter were seriously injured in the accident. They are undergoing treatment at Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex in Gopalganj.

The accident happened at Bara Kumardia of Nagarkanda on the Dhaka-Khulna highway at about 6:00pm on Tuesday (April 16). They hail from village Amtali in Moralganj police station in Bagerhat district.

The deceased were Sumaiya Akter, 35, and her 8-month-old baby boy Mohammad Mir. They were the wife and son of Azmin Mia of village Siddhirpasha in Launia in Jessore district. Injured Azmin Mia, 45, and his two-year-old daughter Fatema Akter are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Police said Azmin Mia was going to Dhaka with his wife and two children by his motorcycle. On the way, a gas cylinder laden truck hit the motorcycle from behind at Bara Kumardia in Nagarkanda. Both Sumaya and her son fell down and died on the spot. Later, the locals rushed the injured to Muksudpur Health Complex in Gopalganj.

Nagarkanda Police Station OC Mohammad Aminur Rahman said police went to the spot and recovered the bodies. Traffic movement remains normal and the two bodies have been handed over to Banga Highway Police Station.

Bhanga Highway Police Station OC Khairul Anam said the bodies were recovered and taken to Bhanga Highway Police Station. The process of handing over the bodies to the family is underway.
