Desperate hill-climbing gangs to encroach on protected forest land
  Date : 19-05-2024

Our Correspondent: In Pekua of Cox`s Bazar under the jurisdiction of Chittagong South Forest Division, some hill-climbing gangs are using the manpower shortage of the forest division to build settlements by cutting hills. Barbakia Range conducted one successful campaign after another. The range officer was alert, honest and conscientious, under the leadership of Md. Habibul Haque, the vigilant guard of the forest department, eviction of these illegal structures. Meanwhile, he is vocal against mountain cutting and sand mining.

This time, to prevent this operation, the occupying gang has entered into a deep conspiracy against him. The gang is running various kinds of hateful propaganda including false propaganda and conspiracy that they are constructing structures on government land when they settle in Khatian forest land.
It is known from visiting various areas on the surface and talking to local residents that the Denarchara area of ??Taitong Bit is surrounded by small and large dunes. Next to which there is a garden created by social forestry in the fiscal year 2005-06. There is no sign of mountain cutting.
Similarly, there are no mountains cut inside the reserve in Pahariakhali, Napitit Chita, and Longaghona areas of Barbakia Bit.

It can also be seen from the surface investigation, all the hill cuts that are seen in these places are all owned registered areas.
Meanwhile, the same picture can be seen in Pahariakhali. When asked about the hill cutting, the residents of that area, Manzoor, Syed Alam and Ezahar said that the soil was cut from their Khatiani place. Also Kabir Ahang of Bharuali has cut the upper part of his land of B,S Dag No-25293. But Paharkhekora gave false information that the hill of Kabir Ahmad Reserve has been cut. The soil of another place has been cut which is B,S Dag No-15200.
The investigation shows that the soil has been cut in the place of 1755 and 1756 BS dag recorded in Ramizpara. There is also no reserve hill cut. But there are rumors that Pahar Kheko Chakra is cutting the reserve forest soil.

Giyas Uddin, a local land owner, said, "I leveled the soil of my Khatian area and removed some soil to build a house and donated it for the development of the mosque. There is no question of cutting the hill of the reserve here.
The mountain cutting syndicate says that if the range officer is paid money, permission to cut the mountain will be granted. But the locals say that by selling the name of the forest department, Pahar Khekora is setting up various illegal structures through money. The headman was threatened with death if he protested.

It has been seen on the ground that the part of Jumpara where the hill is supposed to be cut. It is not covered by the Toitong Bit or Barbakia rang.
There are also seen signs of old hill cutting. In this way, the names of Kajal Saudagar and Abdus Sukkur are associated with that mountain Khekora. Abdus Shukkur is staying out of the country for about 6 months and Kajal Saudagar is a trader in Toitong Bazar.

Businessman Kajol said, "I have been doing business in Taitong market for 18 years, there have been several news in my name that I cut trees, cut soil which has no truth. They are trying to frame the forest department with me.
Meanwhile, Awami League leader Zainal said, "My opponent has given false information to the implementers of the special agenda identified in connection with me regarding the cutting of hills in South Jum area. Abdul Haque of Tarabunia Para and Jahangir of Sabujpara went to the house of a person and found no sign of cutting the hill. Going to the middle of the dense area, you can see the image of a mountain collapsing.
It is known from the local people that the mountain collapsed 3/4 years ago. It has been so long that no one could take even a piece of soil from here.

The investigation also revealed that a sand mining ring, unable to extract the sand of Madhukhali, without being able to get their benefits, a fabricated story has been arranged with false information involving the Barbakia range officer Md. Habibul Haque. There is no truth in it at all.
Meanwhile, Barbakia forest officials claim that the statements of Musharraf and Akhtar have been highlighted, they are one of the members of the known sand and soil smuggling ring in the area and accused in various forest cases. Due to the disruption of their opportunities, such false propaganda has been spread to achieve their interests.

Maidur of Pahariakhali said, "They have cut and cleared their land in Khatian areas and built houses. What is the ranger`s job here? The mountains that have been cut are fully covered.
Regarding this, Toitong Bit official Zamir Uddin said, Toitong Bit is under Barbakia range. There is a shortage of manpower in the forest department. Bankhekoras are doing these misdeeds on this occasion. We are trying our best to stop this crime. Regular operations are being conducted. Night patrolling of forest department has also been strengthened. Legal action has also been taken against those involved in mountain cutting.
Barbakia Range Officer Md. Habibul Haque said, a syndicate of Balukheko was unable to extract the sand from the reserve forest and has been weaving a conspiracy against me for some time ago. I have surrendered to the court. Now I am waiting for the trial of the learned court. This will be what the Balu Court decides. But Pahar and Balu Kheko Syndicate are on top of me because their facilities are closed.
Now they are trying to destroy my social status. Even they are spreading such disgusting false propaganda never in my working life I have been subjected to such a situation. The Pahar and Balu Kheko Syndicate often says that if I don`t meet their demands, I don`t want to be here and I don`t have a job.
He also said, I am not disturbed at all by these false propaganda and threats. As a dedicated employee of the republic, I will work to protect forests and forest resources. In the last two and a half years since I joined, I have filed 143 forest cases and taken legal action against 120 criminals for their involvement in forest crime. About 4000 cubic feet of wood and 5 lakh cubic feet of sand have been seized and brought under the law. We have taken legal action by seizing 40 vehicles involved in these crimes.
Daily operations will continue as per the capability to protect government assets.
