Subir Nandi’s 5th death anniversary today

Entertainment Desk : Today (May 7) marks the 5th death anniversary of country’s popular singer Subir Nandi.

Born in Sylhet in 1953, Subir Nandi spent his childhood in Dhaka and Kolkata. The singer has nine siblings.

All of them learned music from Ustad Babar Ali Khan. He grew up listening to Pankaj Mullick, Kundan Lal Saigal, Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, and Manna Dey. In 1972, Subir recorded his first song, ‘Jodi Keu Dhup Jele Dai’, written by Mohammed Muzakker and composed by Ustad Mir Kasem.

Subir Nandi, one of the most gifted singers to have ever come in the Bangla music arena, started his musical career in 1970s.

He sang notable songs like “Tumi Emoni Jaal Petecho Shongshare”, “Amar Ei Duti Chokh Pathor To Noi”, “Ek Je Chilo Sonar Konna”, “O Amar Ural Ponkhire”.

His work in the film “Mahanayak” in 1984 made him got a breakthrough.

He also received his first national film award in his career for the film. In 1994, Nandi rendered songs at the House of Commons in the United Kingdom.

The popular musician won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer five times for his performance in the films “Mahanayak”, “Shuvoda”, “Srabon Megher Din”, “Megher Pore Megh”, and “Mohua Sundori”.

He was also awarded Ekushey Padak in 2019.

The noted singer breathed his last at a hospital in Singapore on 7 May 2019.
