Dhaka’s rail link with northern regions snapped as train derails

Online Desk : A compartment of a Burimari Express train derailed early Thursday (May 9), causing a halt to the rail link between Dhaka and the northern regions of Bangladesh.

The derailment occurred two kilometers from Muladuli station area around 3:00am.

Shah Sufi Noor Mohammad, the Pakshi Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Western Railway, confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

Burimari Express leaves from Lalmonirhat to Dhaka in time, he said, adding later, a compartment of the train derailed around 3:00pm due to technical glitch, snapping the rail communication between Dhaka and the northern regions.

A relief train is on the way from Ishwardi to savage the train, he added.

A compartment of a Dhaka-bound Rangpur Express train derailed on Tuesday, causing a halt to the rail link between Dhaka and the northern regions of Bangladesh.

The incident took place at Gharinda railway station at around 4:40am.

Rezaul Karim, in charge of Bangabandhu Setu East Railway Station, said that when the Rangpur Express train reached the railway station in Tangail, the cargo compartment close to the engine abruptly derailed from the tracks.

Rail services between the northern regions of Bangladesh and Dhaka was cut off, he added.

Tangail Railway Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Akbar said the matter was immediately reported to the railway authorities.

A rescue team will reach the spot soon, he added.
