Metro Rail to be extended to Tongi, instead of Ashulia
  Date : 21-05-2024

Online Report : The Dhaka Metro Rail, a mass rapid transit system in the capital, will be extended up to Tongi though it was scheduled to be expanded up to Ashulia.

Dhaka Metro Rail`s managing director MAN Siddique stated it on Friday.

He said Metro Rail was scheduled to be extended to Ashulia in Savar. But, according to a new plan, it is being extended up to Tongi. During the construction of MRT Line 6, it was extended up to a kilometer taking the future demand into account. The feasibility study of the extended line is now going on. Tender will be floated after finalising the design soon.

The Metro Rail managing director said they had a plan to extend the MRT-6 line up to Ashulia. But, the plan has been changed owing to Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway, because it is absolutely impossible to build another train line on this route. According to the revised plan, the line will be extended up to Tongi Railway Station.

MAN Siddique said if the extened line could be connected, it would take 48 minutes to reach Kamlapur from Tongi.

Dhaka Metro Rail is now carrying passengers from Uttara to Motijheel and Motijheel to Uttara. The extended portion of this route will go up to Kamlapur.
