  Date : 09-05-2025

Man sustained from injuries during the clash between students and the Ansar members near the Secretariat in Dhaka died this morning.

The deceased Shahin Howlader, 45-year-old passed away on Wednesday morning at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Confirming the death, Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, said that his body had been sent to the morgue for an autopsy.

The clash erupted on the night of August 25 when students confronted Ansar members who had blockaded the Secretariat, despite their demands, including job nationalization, being met. The confrontation left at least 40 people injured.

Shahin’s son, Hasan Ahmed, who recently took the HSC exams from Kabi Nazrul College, said that his father was a driver for a rent-a-car service.

On the night of the clash, Hasan was at the Dhaka University campus collecting relief for flood victims.

When his father learned that Hasan was near the Secretariat, he went there to pick him up and got caught in the violence. Shahin was injured by Ansar members and was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Shahin hailed from Mongla Upazila in Bagerhat district and lived with his family in the Dakshin Goran area of Dhaka.
