CEC Haibul Awal may resign tomorrow
  Date : 09-05-2025

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Haibul Awal and four other election commissioners could announce resignation from their posts Thursday, the CEC told reporters Wednesday (Sept 4).

The CEC held a closed-door meeting with other election commissioners at the Election Commission headquarters, Agargaon in the capital on Wednesday.

After the meeting, the CED said he would announce everything including resignation plans in a press briefing to be held at 12pm Thursday.

When asked about the date of holding meeting with the president likely over resignation, the CEC said he would meet President Mohammed Shahabuddin Thursday.

A source inside the Election Commission, has said that the CEC and four election commissioners are preparing to quit their jobs. However, the four election commissioners differ with the CEC over holding a press conference to announce resignation plans, the source claimed.

There are allegations that the CEC and election commissioners helped Awami League rig the 12th national elections held on 7 January.
