Chayanika Chowdhury faces arrest warrant

A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant against director Chayanika Chowdhury in a cheque dishonour case.

Judge Md Bulbul Islam of Dhaka`s 7th Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court passed the order on Tuesday, May 6, plaintiff`s lawyer Abdus Salam Himel confirmed.

Court sources said today was scheduled to cross examine plaintiff and producer Rashedul Islam Riaz, but the accused, Chayanika Chowdhury, did not attend the court.

Her lawyer sought time, but the court rejected the plea and issued an arrest warrant against her.

The court also set June 26 for argument in the case.

According to the documents of the case filed on May 14, 2013, plaintiff Riaz paid Chayanika Tk 2.30 lakh under a contract on August 24, 2012, for making a drama named `Jibon Sundor Hok`. She failed to make it and on October 30, 2012, issued a Tk 2.30 cheque to him. However, the cheque was dishonoured due to insufficient funds.
