Pay RMG workers Eid bonus within May, salary by June 3: Adviser
  Date : 24-05-2025

Garment owners will have to pay their workers Eid-ul-Azha bonuses within this month, and salaries between the 1st and 3rd of June, said Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday.

He made the statement following a meeting of the National Law and Order Committee at the Ministry of Home Affairs ahead of Eid ul-Azha.

“The bonus must be paid within May, and salaries of the month should be disbursed between June 1 and 3,” said Chowdhury. “We’re urging all stakeholders to ensure that workers receive their payments on time.”

The adviser added that while the government supports workers’ justified demands, any attempt to block roads or disrupt public life will be dealt with by law enforcement.

“Unreasonable demands cannot be accepted. If roads are blocked, appropriate action will be taken,” he warned.

Chowdhury also emphasized that no public transport—bus, train, or launch—will be allowed to carry passengers beyond capacity during the Eid travel rush. The same rule will apply to the transportation of sacrificial animals.

In response to ongoing labour protests, he said, “People naturally have demands. We are asking all ministries to respond to those that are reasonable. But everyone must protest within their own premises and avoid causing suffering to the general public.”
