The Election Commission (EC) will soon restore the registration and election symbol of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, according to AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, Assistant Secretary General of the party. He stated that the EC has shown a “positive attitude” regarding the matter.
A Jamaat-e-Islami delegation met with the Election Commission on Monday (June 2) at the EC Bhaban to discuss two key issues, including the restoration of the party`s registration.
Following the meeting, Hamidur Rahman Azad told reporters, “Yesterday, the court ordered the EC to restore Jamaat’s registration to its previous status. In this regard, six of us held a meeting with the EC. The Commission has a positive attitude. We want the decision to be implemented without delay. The people of the country are eagerly waiting.”
The day after the court`s verdict, the party submitted a copy of the judgment along with their lawyer to the EC.
On Sunday, the Election Commission stated that it would decide on the next course of action regarding Jamaat’s registration and election symbol after officially receiving the court’s verdict.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AM Nasir Uddin, along with four election commissioners and the EC secretary, were present at the meeting.
The Jamaat delegation was led by Hamidur Rahman Azad and comprised six members. The other members included Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Media and Publicity Division; Advocate Motiur Rahman Akand, Executive Committee Member and Secretary of the Media and Publicity Division; Mobarak Hossain, Central Executive Committee Member; Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarkar, Central Working Committee Member; and lawyer Shishir Monir.
