Allocation for Expatriates’ Welfare Ministry decreased in budget

The allocation for Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment has been reduced to Tk 855 crore, which is almost half compared to the previous fiscal year 2024–25.

Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed began presenting the 2025–26 fiscal year’s budget on Monday at 3 PM.

An analysis of the proposed budget document reveals this picture.

In the revised budget of the 2024–25 fiscal year, the government had allocated Tk 1,140 crore for Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.

However, in the current budget, the allocation has been reduced by Tk 285 crore.

Additionally, operating expenditure has been set at Tk 451 crore, while development expenditure is proposed at Tk 404 crore.

In the revised budget of 2024–25, operating expenditure was Tk 420 crore and development expenditure stood at Tk 720 crore.

In the announced fiscal year, development expenditure has been slashed by Tk 316 crore, nearly half compared to the previous fiscal year.
