Bangladesh, Pakistan discuss shipping, labour cooperation

Diplomatic Correspondent: Shipping and Labour and Employment Adviser Brig Gen (retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain on Wednesday said exchanging experiences and expanding cooperation in the shipping and labour sectors would bring tangible benefits to the people of Bangladesh and Pakistan.
"Bangladesh believes in deepening relations with neighbouring and friendly countries on the basis of mutual understanding and shared interests," he said when Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider made a call on him at his secretariat office here.
Bilateral ties, trade expansion and cooperation in shipping, maritime affairs and labour sectors came up for discussion during the call on. He also underscored the scope for joint initiatives in regional connectivity, safe maritime navigation and skilled manpower development.
The Pakistani High Commissioner praised Bangladesh`s progress in the shipping sector and expressed interest in working closely to further strengthen bilateral relations.
He emphasised the need to enhance cooperation between Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) and Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) to boost maritime transport collaboration. He also highlighted the importance of technical cooperation on port development, including the Matarbari Deep Sea Port.
Shipping Ministry Secretary Dr Nurunnahar Chowdhury and other senior officials of the ministry were present at the meeting.
