| Special Correspondent: A reunion and exchange of views involving former students of the Dakhil-1994 batch of Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasa was held at a restaurant in Paltan, Dhaka, ahead of the general council election of the Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasa Alumni Association.
The gathering brought together friends and former classmates from different walks of life, who discussed the forthcoming alumni election, representation of the Dakhil-1994 batch and the association’s future leadership and activities.
The general council election of the Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasa Alumni Association is scheduled to be held on October 3 and 4, 2026. The election has also created an opportunity for former classmates to reconnect after many years, share memories of their student days and exchange views on the future of the alumni body.
Among those attending the reunion and discussion were Mu`tasim Billah Makki, Shahadatullah Tutul, Aslam Mia, Ashraful Kadir Kanchan, Abdul Kader Sarkar, Abdul Hai, Muhibullah Selim, Md Hafizul Islam, MM Rahmatullah, Anwar Hossain, Khondaker Alauddin, Hasanuzzaman, Mazharul Islam, Mohammad Eliash Hossain, Abdur Rahim and Lutfur Rahman, among others.
Participants said that, under the constitution of the Alumni Association, the General Council will comprise three elected representatives from each batch along with all former vice-presidents.
The year of the Dakhil examination is being considered the basis for determining a student’s batch. Accordingly, a student of the Dakhil-1994 batch who subsequently obtained a Dakhil-1994, Alim-1996, Fazil-1998 or Kamil-2000 certificate from Tamirul Millat will be considered a member of the Dakhil-1994 batch.
According to the voter list published by the Election Commission, the Dakhil-1994 batch has 96 voters. Excluding the former vice-president, three representatives are to be elected from among the remaining 95 voters to represent the batch in the General Council.
The participants discussed the importance of selecting representatives who not only enjoy the confidence of their classmates but also maintain regular communication with most members of the batch and are capable of performing their responsibilities effectively as members of the General Council.
During the meeting, participants exchanged views on a proposed panel of five names selected from among several potential candidates on the basis of the collective opinions of those present.
However, it was made clear at the meeting that voters would remain free to vote for candidates other than those included in the proposed five-member panel.
Participants emphasised that the primary objective should be to ensure effective and meaningful representation of the Dakhil-1994 batch in the Alumni Association.
The meeting also discussed the proposed three-stage election process for selecting the leadership of the Alumni Association.
First stage: Three representatives from each batch will be elected on October 3 and 4 to form the General Council. The results are scheduled to be announced on October 5.
Second stage: A 21-member Executive Committee will be elected by the members of the General Council. The election is scheduled for October 10, with the results expected to be announced on October 11.
Third stage: The president and secretary of the Alumni Association will be elected by members of the Executive Committee. The election is scheduled for October 13, while the results are expected to be announced on October 17.
The Alumni Association’s central committee is expected to comprise members of both the General Council and the Executive Committee.
The former students attending the gathering expressed hope that the longstanding friendship and communication among members of the Dakhil-1994 batch would help them play a constructive role in the Alumni Association.
They stressed the importance of participating responsibly in the election process and ensuring appropriate representation of the batch in the association’s General Council.
