Desk Report: The Dhaka South City unit of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has accorded a reception to 1,500 students who secured GPA-5 in the SSC, Dakhil and equivalent examinations.

The reception was held at 9am at the auditorium of the Gendaria Social and Cultural Centre in the capital. Guests handed over crests and gift items to the meritorious students at the event.

Addressing the programme as chief guest, Chhatra Shibir Central President Nurul Islam Saddam urged the young achievers to use their talent, energy and determination to build what he described as a welfare-oriented, just and equitable Bangladesh.

“Your talent, youth and enthusiasm will be instrumental in moving the country towards a new Bangladesh,” he said, calling on the students to stand against injustice and work for people`s rights and dignity.

Saddam also advised the students to make the next two years, after entering college, count. He urged them to avoid unnecessary distractions, idle gatherings and activities that could undermine their academic and personal development.

“The competition ahead will not be limited to your classmates. You will compete with talented students from across Bangladesh,” he said, stressing the need for early preparation for admission to leading universities, including Dhaka University.

Alongside academic achievement, Saddam emphasised honesty, morality and humanitarian values. He encouraged the students to use their knowledge and abilities for the welfare of society and the country.

Chhatra Shibir Central Literature Secretary Saidul Islam, speaking as a special guest, said success can sometimes make people arrogant, while it can also make others more humble.

He urged the students never to allow future achievements to make them arrogant. “The greater you become, the more humble you should be,” he said, stressing the importance of respecting parents, teachers and society.

Former international affairs secretary of Chhatra Shibir and former DUCSU vice-president Abu Sadik Kayem said securing GPA-5 or even a Golden A+ should not be regarded as the ultimate measure of success.

According to him, true success lies in becoming a good, ethical and compassionate human being whose abilities contribute to society and the country.

Kayem urged the students to maintain confidence as they prepare for university admission and their future careers. He also called on them to remain grateful to their parents, stand by them and develop their character through regular study, self-discipline and religious and moral education.

“The next generation of Bangladesh`s leadership is sitting before us,” Kayem said, expressing hope that the students would play a role in building a prosperous and just society.

The programme was presided over by Hafiz Delwar Hossain, president of the Dhaka South City unit of Chhatra Shibir, and moderated by the unit`s secretary, Hafiz Anwar Hossain.

Among those present were Dhaka-5 lawmaker Kamal Hossain, Dhaka-4 lawmaker Syed Zainul Abedin, Jashore-2 lawmaker Dr Mosleh Uddin Farid, former vice-chancellor of Islamic Arabic University Professor Dr Shamsul Alam, former presidents of the Dhaka South City unit Shafiul Alam and Alauddin Abir, among others.

The event brought together a large number of high-achieving students and placed particular emphasis on the responsibilities that accompany academic success, including personal integrity, social responsibility and preparation for the challenges of higher education and professional life.
