Bangladeshi student achieves world’s highest score in Cambridge AS Mathematics

Special Correspondent: A Bangladeshi student has brought international recognition to the country by achieving an outstanding result in the Cambridge International Advanced Subsidiary (AS) examinations, securing 100 per cent marks in Mathematics and earning the highest possible grade in all four subjects.

Sahil Wazir Mamun, popularly known as Mugdha, a student of BAF Shaheen English Medium College, achieved the remarkable feat in the June 2026 session of the Cambridge International examinations.

He secured an A grade in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, demonstrating exceptional academic excellence across all four subjects. According to his Cambridge results statement, his Percentage Uniform Mark (PUM) scores were 96 per cent in Biology, 97 per cent in Chemistry, 97 per cent in Physics and a perfect 100 per cent in Mathematics.

His perfect score in Mathematics has earned him the distinction of achieving the world`s highest mark in the subject, according to information provided by his institution.

In recognition of his exceptional academic performance and consistent excellence, BAF Shaheen English Medium College has also named Mugdha its ‘Student of the Decade’ this year. The honour recognises him as the institution`s outstanding student over the past ten years.

Mugdha`s achievement is particularly significant as it highlights the growing potential of Bangladeshi students to compete and excel at the highest levels of international education.

He is the son of retired Brigadier General Dr Mohammad Mamun Ur Rashid, a radiologist, and Professor Sabiha Islam, a professor at Bangladesh Medical University.

His outstanding results reflect not only his academic ability but also his dedication, discipline and hard work. The achievement is also a source of pride for his family, teachers and educational institution.

Cambridge International examinations are internationally recognised qualifications taken by students in different countries. Achieving the highest grade in four subjects, alongside a perfect score in Mathematics, represents an exceptional academic accomplishment.

Mugdha`s success sends an encouraging message to students across Bangladesh, demonstrating that determination, quality education and hard work can open doors to international recognition.

His achievement has placed another remarkable milestone in the record of Bangladeshi students in the global academic arena.
