Jamaat condemns gun attack on Singer Asif Akbar`s car in Moghbazar

Desk Report: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has strongly condemned and protested the incident of gunfire targeting the private car of popular singer and former director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Asif Akbar.

In a statement issued on Saturday, 24 October, the party`s Assistant Secretary General and Secretary of the Central Publicity and Media Department, Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, said the party expresses deep condemnation over the attack that took place in the early hours of Saturday in the capital`s Moghbazar area.

According to the statement, miscreants opened fire targeting Asif Akbar`s personal vehicle in Moghbazar in the early morning.

Describing the incident as "extremely alarming and condemnable", Zubair said, "An incident like gunfire targeting the private car of a popular singer of the country cannot be accepted in any way."

He said such terrorist acts pose a threat to public safety, law and order, and the normal life of citizens. Law enforcement agencies must play a more effective role in curbing such crimes. Ensuring the safety of life and property of every citizen is the responsibility of the state, he added.

The Jamaat leader demanded that the miscreants involved in the incident be identified quickly and brought under the law.

"We strongly demand a fair investigation to unearth the real reason behind the incident and to ensure exemplary punishment of the culprits in the interest of justice," the statement said.

No official statement has yet been issued by police regarding the motive behind the firing or whether any suspects have been detained.
