Khelafat Majlis Rally in Kurigram demands July Charter implementation

Kurigram Correspondent: Khelafat Majlis organised a massive public rally in Kurigram on Saturday, calling for the implementation of the July Charter in line with the outcome of the referendum, comprehensive constitutional reforms, and full implementation of the recognition of Qawmi madrasa certificates.

The rally was held at 2:00pm at Shaheed Minar in Shapla Chattar, Kurigram town, under the initiative of the party`s Kurigram district unit. It brought together central and local leaders of Khelafat Majlis and representatives of several other political and social organisations.

Dr Ahmad Abdul Kader, Secretary General of Khelafat Majlis, addressed the gathering as the chief guest. The rally was presided over by Maulana Abu Sayeed, a member of the party`s Central Executive Committee and president of its Kurigram district unit.

Asaduzzaman Raju, joint general secretary of the Kurigram district unit, conducted the programme.

Among those attending were Master Md Sirajul Islam, member of the party`s Central Advisory Council; Lecturer Abdul Karim, central president of Sramik Majlis; Mufti Sheikh Shabbir Ahmad, central joint general secretary of Islami Jubo Majlis; Md Sabeber Rahman and Principal A.K.M. Golam Azam, assistant zonal directors for the Rangpur division; Vice-Principal Md Touhidur Rahman Mondal Raju, president of Rangpur Metropolitan unit; Maulana Ashraful Islam, president of Rangpur district unit; and Ahmod Ali.

Mukul Mia, president of the National Citizen Party`s Kurigram district unit, Professor Abdul Hamid, president of the Gaibandha district unit, Mehedi Hasan, general secretary of the Gaibandha unit, and Kazi Maulana Nuruzzaman, general secretary of the Kurigram district unit, were also present. Anti-Discrimination Student Movement leader Abdur Rahman Parvez attended the gathering, among others.

The rally placed constitutional reform and the implementation of the July Charter at the centre of its demands. The organisers called for the July Charter to be implemented in accordance with the people`s verdict in the referendum, stressing the need for meaningful constitutional reforms.

The speakers and organisers also raised a range of economic, educational and social issues, including demands for reductions in the prices of oil, gas and electricity and uninterrupted energy supplies.

They called for large-scale employment generation to tackle unemployment, stronger measures to eliminate drug abuse and trafficking, effective action against crime, and the establishment of justice and the rule of law.

Education-related demands featured prominently in the programme. The organisers called for financial assistance to Qawmi madrasas, mandatory religious and moral education in all educational institutions, and full recognition of Qawmi madrasa certificates, including opportunities for their holders to enter government service.

The rally highlighted the organisers` call for reforms spanning governance, economic security, law enforcement and educational opportunities, placing particular emphasis on the need to address public concerns and ensure equal opportunities for students from different educational backgrounds.
