2 killed as pickup-autorickshaw crash in B`bari

Two youths were killed and two others injured in a collision between a pickup van and autorickshaw in Brahmanbaria on Friday (May 31) morning.

The incident happened at 10.15 am on the Cumilla-Sylhet highway at Suhilpur area of the upazila.

The deceased are - Shamsu Mia, 24, son of Nurul Islam of Sutiara village under Budhal union in Sadar upazila, and Mithun Mia, 28, son of Alauddin Mia, of Chandiara village under the same union.

According to locals, a CNG-run autorickshaw with passengers was heading towards the sadar upazila from Khatihata area. On the way, when it reached at Ghatura area, a speeding pickup van from opposite direction rammed the autorickshaw, leaving its two passengers dead on the spot and two others critically injured.

Khatihata Highway Police Station Assistant Sub-Inspector ASI Mrinal Kanti confirmed the matter.

The injured were rescued and taken to Sadar Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the bodies were recovered from the spot and kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy, he said.
