Advocate Zinath Sohana Chowdhury, a leader of Chittagong North District Women`s Awami League, was arrested late Monday night (May 13) from a residence in Bayezid area of the city.
Zinath Sohana hails from Raozan upazila in Chattogram. She is the divisional coordinator of Suchinta Foundation, a former CDA (Chittagong Development Authority) member, chairperson of Farmin Group, and a former member of both Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and BGMEA.
Her husband, Mohammad Imran, is the president of Florida unit of US Awami League.
Police stated that she is an accused named in a case filed with Kotwali Police Station regarding a clash that occurred on December 4 last year between police and followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari on Chittagong court premises.
Bayezid Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Arifur Rahman confirmed that she was arrested from a house in Bayezid and was handed over to Kotwali Police Station later that night in connection with the case.
