Election Commissioner (EC) Anwarul Islam said on Sunday that Shapla (water lily) symbol cannot be given to any party, as it is not on the commission’s approved list.

Speaking to reporters, EC Anwarul said they must act according to the constitution and existing laws.

He also emphasised that there is no reason to postpone the national election beyond February and expects it to take place before Ramadan.

He added that law enforcement agencies are fully prepared to ensure a fair and peaceful poll.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Quddus Chowdhury, Additional Commissioner Masud Rana, District Police Superintendent Mahbubur Rahman and CTSB Deputy Commissioner Afzal Hossain, among others, attended the event.
