Easybike workers protest for relief
  Date : 27-04-2024

Sohel Rana, Thakurgaon: "As you know, some of the easybike workers who lost their jobs in the last lockdown have run out of savings and some have gone into debt to support their families. We have not been able to overcome the stress yet. I am being harassed by the police when I go out on the streets. The government gave some relief in the last lockdown but this time no relief story was heard anywhere! "The words were heard from the mouths of several easybike workers at a protest rally demanding relief and cash assistance while standing under the scorching sun.

The protest rally was held in Thakurgaon district`s road area for relief and cash assistance during the ongoing lockdown in Corona. The protest rally was held under the banner of Thakurgaon Easybike Workers Union around 12 noon on Sunday.

President of Thakurgaon Easybike Workers Union, Mahabub Alam Rubel, General Secretary Abu as Labu, Vice President Belal Hossain, Shahjahan Ali, Joint General Secretary Farid Hossain and others spoke at the protest rally.

The speakers said, "The Prime Minister has announced to give only Rs. 10.5 crore through the Deputy Commissioners across the country for the working people affected by the lockdown. People have become poor. In all, the number of poor people is about 70 million. Then each person`s share is only one and a half rupees later. The speakers further said, "The Prime Minister has announced to give two and a half thousand rupees to one and a half million families. Last time, most of the people did not get this money except for a couple of scattered people. We are worried about that. So we don`t want to go without food anymore. Let our rights be saved and help with cash. Otherwise we will die on the streets rather than at home. "
