Relief and food aid to the affected fishermen

Pirojpur Correspondent: The Bangladesh Navy on Monday seized 21 lakh meters of illegal nets worth about Tk. 6 crore from Pirojpur and Bagerhat areas as part of Operation Jatka Destruction Prevention Program-2021. During this time, the Bangladesh Navy distributed relief and food aid to the affected fishermen from the ships `Salam` and `Karnafuli`. The seized illegal nets were destroyed in the presence of local administration, law enforcement agencies and fisheries officials.

Under the Jatka eradication program, Bangladesh Navy is engaged in rescue operations of Jatka and current nets and other illegal nets in different districts and coastal areas of the country. It may be mentioned that the Bangladesh Navy is conducting ship operations in different river basins of the country in this operation which started from 01 April 2021, which will continue till 30 June 2021. As a result of this campaign, the accumulation of national resource hilsa in the rivers of the country has increased more than before and it is expected to increase further in the future.
