Speacial Correspondent:: The Yaba reign of two `Saifuls` has been going on for more than a decade at the Teknaf border in Cox`s Bazar.

Large consignments of yaba from neighboring Myanmar are in the name of two Saifuls, but Saiful Karim, a well-known yaba don, has been mentioned repeatedly at the listed borders. Forming a 25-member `Coastal Yaba Syndicate`, Saiful brought yaba by sea and spread it to different parts of the country.

On January 11, after Saiful was arrested in a raid by the Drug Control Department on his fishing boat, Syed Karim, with yaba and ice, all the unknown information about Saiful Islam`s yaba empire started to come out.

The Narcotics Control Department has also filed a case against Saiful Islam for smuggling yaba and ice through fishing boatman Syed Karim.

It is learned that Haji Saiful Karim`s chapter ended on May 31, 2019 between two Saifuls known as Yaba Don at the border. At that time, after the alleged gunfight with the police, people started forgetting Haji Saiful Karim.

But another Saiful Teknaf coast syndicate of 25 people brought large shipments of yaba and crystal meth ice by sea. In recent times, this Saiful Islam has gained fame on the coast of Dawood Ibrahim.

According to the investigation, Saiful Islam, son of Syed Hossain of South Lengurbil village, Ward 3, Teknaf Sadar Union, Cox`s Bazar district. Saiful Islam got involved in the yaba business along with politics with top Yaba Godfather (listed by the Home Ministry) BNP leader Zafar Ahmed Prakash Zafar. Slowly the yaba business spread across the border.

After gaining the confidence of Myanmar`s yaba traders, he did not have to back down.

It is also learned that along with Haji Saiful Karim, Saiful Islam also dominated the world of Yaba. He bought three fishing boats himself. In the name of fishing in the sea, Saiful is involved in the trade of drugs, ice as well as foreign weapons on the way to the sea with the members of the syndicate. He was accused of supplying 9mm pistols and home-made guns to Rohingya camp-based terrorists. Saiful, the head of this coastal syndicate, owns hundreds of crores of rupees including bank balances. There are also cases against him in different police stations including Dhaka Jatrabari, Teknaf and Ramu. He has been involved in the politics of Chhatra Dal, Juba Dal and BNP and has been the controller of a 25-member coastal syndicate since 2011.

The investigation further revealed that yaba and crystal meth ice were smuggled directly from the yaba factory in Myanmar. Saiful Islam was first arrested along with Yaba in Ramu police station in 2014.

According to the DNC Teknaf Special Zone, on the afternoon of January 11, Saiful Islam was arrested for smuggling yaba tablets and crystal meth containing amphetamine worth Tk 33.50 lakh. Zone`s raiding team.

Detained Syed Karim Majhi admitted during interrogation by DNC that the seized yaba and ice Saiful Islam had given him Tk 5,000 to deliver to Cox`s Bazar.

Teknaf Special Zone Sub-Inspector Tunta Moni Chakma filed a case against the arrested Syed Karim Majhi and Yaba Don Saiful Islam. Case No. 43, GR-43 of Teknaf Police Station.

Talking to locals, it is learned that other members of Saiful`s Coastal Yaba Syndicate are Nur Bashar Prakash Bulu Driver of Mithapani Chhara. The deceased were identified as Mohammad Ullah, Mohammad Abdullah of Hatiyar Ghona and Mohammad Rashid (Anuia) of the same area. Each of them has a fishing boat. They are also accused in drug cases.

Locals further said that Saiful Islam was first arrested at Ramu police station in Cox`s Bazar with a yaba consignment. Case No. 23/383, 18 October 2014 was filed against him under the Narcotics Control Act of Ramu Police Station, Cox`s Bazar. After a long imprisonment, he was released on bail and resumed his drug smuggling business.

According to multiple responsible sources, Crystal Meth brought ice and yaba directly from Akiab in

Myanmar. He has a syndicate with the Rohingyas on the other side. 10/15 Rohingyas armed with local and Rohingya robbers unloaded yaba at Teknaf Lengur Beel Ghat, Tulatli Ghat, Hatiyar Ghonar Ghat, Mitapani Chhara Ghat, Habirchhara Ghat, Noakhali Para Ghat at different times. The coastal syndicate has 30 fishing trawlers. As the fishermen of all the fishing boats are Rohingya, they know all the places of that country and the sea route is not unknown. It is also alleged that this Saiful Coastal Syndicate is controlled by 3/4 more Yaba Syndicates consisting of locals and Rohingyas.

According to a source, the coastal syndicate has been set up to protect yaba traders.
