3 of a family killed in Savar gas leak fire

Three people of a family who were burnt in Dhamrai gas leakage died while undergoing treatment in the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka today (April 1).

Savar upazila health and family planning officer Dr. Sayemul Huda confirmed the matter this afternoon.

Among the deceased, Sohag Hossain, 18, HSC candidate, and son of former health inspector of Shimulia Union of Savar Upazila late Nurul Islam died early today. Md. Nurul Islam and his wife Sufia Begum, 50, died yesterday (March 31).

However, Nisrat Jahan Sathi, 22, the only daughter of the family is alive.

On March 26, at 3:30 pm, a gas cylinder leaked and gas accumulated in the flat. When the fire was lit for cooking during Sehri in the early morning, fire spread all over kitchen, leaving four members of the same family seriously injured.

After the incident, they were rescued and admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Dhamrai fire service station in-charge Sohail Rana said, “We went to the spot as soon as we were informed. But before reaching the spot, the locals sent them to the hospital. Today, I learned that three of the victims have died.”
