Over Tk 10.13cr missing, Agrani Bank`s three officials sent to jail

Online Desk : A court in Pabna on Friday sent arrested three officials of Kashinathpur branch of Agrani Bank Limited to jail in connection with the missing of over Tk 10.13 crore from the bank`s vault at Santhia upazila in Pabna district.

Earlier, they were produced before the senior judicial magistrate court. After the hearing, magistrate Anwar Hossain Sagar ordered to send them to jail.

However, it is learnt that the no bail petition was moved to the court on behalf of the accused.

Receiving complaint, Sathia police arrested three officials of Kashinathpur branch including its manager. They were produced before the court on Friday showing arrested under Section 54 of the Criminal Procedure. The three bank officials were branch manager Harun Bin Salam, senior officer Abu Zafar and cash officer Subrata Chakrabarty.


According to police, an audit team comprising of five officials from Agrani Bank`s Rajshahi divisional office and Pabna regional office went to the Kashinathpur branch at Santhia upazila on Thursday morning and detected missing of over Tk 10,13,62,378 crore from the vault of the branch.

However, the branch manager Harun Bin Salam, senior officer Abu Zafar and cash officer Subrata Chakrabarty could not give any positive reply to the members of the audit team about the missing amount.

Then the audit team made a complaint to the local police station accusing three persons. Later, the law enforcers arrested three officials from the Kashinathpur branch on Thursday night.

Santhia Police Station officer-in-charge Anwar Hossain said the three bank officials were arrested under Section 54 of the CrPC.

The Anti-Corruption Commission would take necessary steps over the incident, he said.

Contacted, Agrani Bank`s Rajshahi Zone`s general manager Afzal Hossain said, "We detected a major irregularity after visiting the branch. The arrested three persons could not give any satisfactory replies over the missing amount. So, they were handed over to police. An intensive investigation will be carried out to know what actually had happened."
