No legal bar for Shakib to return to country: Sports adviser
  Date : 16-10-2024

The adviser to the Youth and Sports and Labour and Employment Ministries, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, has said there is no legal bar for cricketer Shakib Al Hasan to return to the country.

He made this statement during a `BSRF views exchange` event at the media centre in the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Shakib is currently facing a murder case, and Asif Mahmud had previously offered to assist him.

When asked if he would be arrested upon returning to the country, the sports advier said, “Legal matters are legal matters, and I cannot comment on that. One aspect is sub judice (under judicial consideration), and the other is that the Ministry of Law can provide the concerned answer.”

He said, “We must ensure the safety of every player. It is our responsibility, and we will fulfill that. Since it is a concern of my ministry, I have tried to find out if there are any legal barriers to Shakib’s entry and exit from the country. I have learned that, so far, there are no legal barriers.”

He added, “If the court issues any orders, that is a matter for the court. That is not my concern. As of now, there are no legal barriers.”

The event was chaired by BSRF President Foshi Uddin Mahtab, and it was conducted by General Secretary Masudul Haque.
