Times have changed, and technology has advanced with time. The use of technology has both simplified and challenged human life. Imagine robots running alongside humans, competing with them! It`s indeed a remarkable thing, and though it seems fictional, it`s about to become a reality in a few days.
China is far ahead in terms of technology. This time, they are going to use a technology that is truly mind-blowing. On April 13, a half marathon (21.09-kilometer race) will be held in Beijing, the capital of China. And robots will run alongside humans in that marathon.
This is the world`s first competition where humans and robots are competing together. The event is organized by China`s state-owned economic and technological development zone, the `Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area`.
According to China Daily news reports, China is ready to welcome global athletes in April. Because China will host the world`s first marathon where humans and human-like robots will participate as runners, which will be a groundbreaking event.
The organizer, Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, has announced that robots will run in the marathon along with about 12,000 runners on April 13. The robots will represent several dozen technology companies. But for safety, the robots will run in separate lanes.
At a recent press conference, the organization`s deputy chief, Li Quan, said that robots will have a maximum of about three and a half hours to complete the half marathon. Whether human or robot, the three fastest runners will be awarded. In addition, there will be some other categories for robots. For example, robots will be awarded for finishing the race, for the most endurance, and for the most popular robot.
The rules state that the participating robots must have a human-like appearance and mechanical structure. Also, both remote-controlled and autonomous robots can participate in this marathon. But the robots cannot have wheels on their feet.
