Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip killed at least 32 people, including over a dozen women and children, according to local health officials on Sunday.
The airstrikes come as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu travels to the United States for talks with President Donald Trump about the ongoing war.
Israel ended its ceasefire with Hamas last month and has been increasing pressure on the militant group by seizing territory. The country has also imposed a blockade, halting the import of essential supplies like food and fuel to Gaza.
The Israeli military ordered the evacuation of several neighborhoods in central Gaza, including Deir al-Balah, after a large barrage of about 10 rockets was fired from Gaza. While five of the rockets were intercepted, one fell in Ashkelon, injuring one person. The military later struck a rocket launcher in Gaza.
Overnight, Israeli strikes targeted a tent and a house in Khan Younis, killing five men, five women, and five children. Among the victims was a female journalist. Her mother, Amal Kaskeen, mourned her daughter’s death, calling her an innocent woman who loved journalism.
Further strikes killed at least four people in the Jabaliya refugee camp, and a strike in Gaza City killed six people, including three children, who were waiting outside a bakery.
In the West Bank, Israeli settlers were accused of shooting three Palestinian-American teenagers, one of whom was killed and two others were injured. Israeli authorities are investigating the incident.
The war, which began on October 7, 2023, has led to the deaths of at least 50,695 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, with more than half of them being women and children. Israel claims to have killed around 20,000 militants, though it has not provided evidence to substantiate this figure.
