Only reforms serving welfare of nation to be considered: Salahuddin
  Date : 09-05-2025

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the party is engaging in discussions to build consensus, emphasising that it is serious about reforms.

He stated that efforts would be made to reach consensus through discussions on the commission’s core proposals, and that only those reforms which serve the welfare of the nation would be considered.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists on Thursday (April 17) afternoon, following a meeting with the National Consensus Commission.

Salahuddin said, “The spreadsheet has created confusion and has been misleading. We are holding ongoing discussions with the Consensus Commission—ranging from the preamble of the constitution to its fundamental principles. BNP’s reform proposals regarding the judiciary have been misrepresented.”

He further added, “All reforms, including those related to the ordinance on the appointment of judges, should be carried out constitutionally. BNP wants the independence of the judiciary, but the process must adhere to constitutional principles.”

Earlier, BNP Standing Committee members Nazrul Islam Khan and Salahuddin Ahmed, along with BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council Member Ismail Jabiullah, former Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, and former Establishment Secretary Abu Mohammad Moniruzzaman, participated in the meeting with the National Consensus Commission.
