Other unsuccessful independent candidates included Shariful Islam (134 votes), Md. Irfan Uddin Saimun (63 votes), Azharul Haque Chowdhury (51 votes), and Md. Rezaul Islam (21 votes).
The election was conducted at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed International Conference Center on Mintu Road, Shahbagh, Dhaka, running continuously from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Later that night, results for the general member category were officially announced by the ISPAB Election Board.
The Election Commission reported that 229 out of 262 votes were cast in the general member category (87%) and 557 out of 662 votes in the associate member category (84%). This puts the overall turnout at approximately 85%. Eight votes were invalid in the general member category.
This year’s ISPAB election had 24 candidates contesting 13 director posts. Of these, 14 contested for 9 positions in the general member category.
Advocate Mohammad Ali, Chairman of the ISPAB Election Board and a lawyer at the Bangladesh Supreme Court, urged the newly elected representatives to work toward making internet services more affordable. He remarked,
“Despite various challenges, we conducted the election with enthusiasm, fairness, and transparency. No digital devices were allowed inside voting booths, preventing previous attempts to manipulate voters through photos taken at the booth. The voting space was kept open and visible to ensure transparency.”
Assistant Attorney General Advocate Md. Ershad Hossain (Rashed) and Assistant Attorney General Advocate Rakib Hossain, both members of the election board, were also present during the result declaration.
The Appellate Board for the election was chaired by Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam, with Lt. Colonel (Retd.) Ahmad Dania Islam and Advocate Md. Nihar Hossain (Faruk) of the Supreme Court serving as members.
Additionally, ISPAB Secretary Bijoy Kumar Pal and Manager Md. Moinul Islam were on duty throughout the voting process.
According to a prior ISPAB announcement,
“The top 9 vote-getters from the general member category and top 4 from the associate member category—13 in total—will be declared elected. These 13 will then elect office bearers for the Executive Committee on May 19.”
