A delegation from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is scheduled to meet Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Monday to discuss the reinstatement of the party`s registration and its electoral symbol.
The meeting will take place at the Election Commission headquarters in Agargaon.
The information was confirmed on Sunday (June 1) by Md. Ashraful Islam, Personal Secretary to the CEC. He stated, "Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam called and requested a meeting. The CEC has allocated 12:00 PM on Monday for the discussion. A delegation of four to five representatives is expected to attend."
The meeting comes a day after the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court overturned a High Court verdict that had declared Jamaat’s registration as a political party illegal. The ruling has opened the door for Jamaat to seek restoration of its registration and party symbol through the Election Commission.
