Martyrs buried in mass grave to be identified through DNA Tests: Jahangir
  Date : 02-08-2025

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said the identities of the July Uprising martyrs buried at Rayerbazar graveyard in Dhaka as unidentified will be confirmed through DNA tests.

After the identification, family members can take the bodies to their respective villages if they want, Jahangir said while visiting the mass grave at the graveyard on Saturday, August 2.

More than 100 martyrs were buried at Rayerbazar graveyard and most of them could not be identitied as many of their relatives did agree to exhume the bodies, he said.

Now, they have agreed, and arrangements will be made soon to identify the bodies, the adviser said.

"If they all give consent, we will identify the bodies through DNA tests and if anyone of them wants to take body to their village, we will allow this, too," he added.
