Writ challenges GS candidate Farhad’s candidacy in DUCSU polls
  Date : 31-08-2025

A writ petition has been filed in the High Court challenging the candidacy of SM Farhad of Islami Chhatra Shibir for the General Secretary post in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections. The petition was filed on Sunday (31 August) at the relevant branch of the High Court by an organization named ‘Liberation War and Democratic Student Movement’.

The petition stated that Farhad was previously a member of the Chhatra League committee, raising questions about how he could now contest as a candidate of the Chhatra Shibir panel. His candidacy has therefore been challenged.

The writ was filed by BM Fahmida Alam, who is contesting the DUCSU elections as Liberation and People’s Movement Affairs Secretary under the ‘Aparajeyo 71, Adamya 24’ panel, backed by three leftist student organizations: a faction of the Bangladesh Chhatra Union, the Somajtantrik Chhatra Front, and the Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of Bangladesh Jasad.

From Chhatra Shibir, Sadik Kayem is contesting for the Vice President post, while SM Farhad is contesting for the General Secretary post. The DUCSU elections are scheduled to be held on 9 September.
